S. D. Tooley

Mystery author Sandra Tooley is the creator of the Sam Casey Series (written as S.D. Tooley) and the Chase Dagger Series (written as Lee Driver). A native of the Chicago suburbs, she worked for seven years at R.R. Donnelley & Sons, the world's largest printing company. Her department printed and bound the Sears Roebuck catalog. Her first introduction to writing fiction was during the four years she worked for the local mayor. She learned early on that anything to do with politics was the ultimate in stretching the truth. Although her first love is mysteries, she spent several years as a technical writer for a manufacturing representative.

Her diverse interests led to other interesting occupations such as a car salesman, seminar coordinator, and her most interesting and exciting job as a casino blackjack dealer. Her six years working for one of the local riverboat casinos prepared her for the second book in the Sam Casey series, Nothing Else Matters, which involved a murder on a riverboat casino. During her last year as a dealer she wrote and published a newsletter for casino dealers.

An extensive interest in Native American culture led Sandy to amass a collection of research books. She was instrumental in introducing Lakota pottery to a large retail chain, and is currently a charter member of the Smithsonian Institute's National Museum of the American Indian. Her interest in Native Americans is evident in her mysteries. Her Sam Casey Series features a Native American detective. Her Chase Dagger Series includes a Native American woman who is a shape-shifter. She has written a number of articles for Mystery Readers Journal and is a frequent speaker at area libraries and local mystery reader groups. Sandy is a member of Mystery Writers of America and Sisters In Crime.
