Sally Spencer was born and grew up in the North of England, where many of her books are set. She has taught in England, Iran (where she witnessed the fall of the Shah) and Spain. She now writes full-time and lives in Madrid with her partner, two dogs and two cats. She enjoys foreign travel and has visited most parts of the world, and is a keen bridge and mah jong player.
Her earlier books were sagas , but in the recent years she has been concentrating on mysteries, featuring Chief Inpsector Charlie Woodend (described by BOOKLIST as "an iconoclastic mixture of Rumpole and Morse"). Five of these books, starting with THE SALTON KILLINGS, have been published in the States, and three more are due out in the near future.
