Californian Louisa Daniel and her daughter, Emily, traveled to Texas in view of the fact that Louisa's aunt had died. Louisa was named executor for the will. Little did these two ladies know that they would be affiliated with not just one anticipated death but instead with three deaths that were meshed with mystery and murder. Louisa's deceased aunt was a sister to Louisa's mother. She was only one of the sisters; there were several. A couple of the sisters were greedy and borderline dysfunctional. They provided some challenges for everyone around them. Challenges also existed with local authorities. The one sheriff claimed to take care of things in his area in his own way. The law always seemed to be around when least expected. Louisa and Emily still continued to search out on their own. Traveling to Texas presented the perfect opportunity for Emily to locate her former roommate, Laurel. She lost track of her years ago but now had the chance to meet Laurel's husband and her two children. Laurel's husband, Dwayne Ed, was an oppressive, appalling man. Everywhere the two ladies turned, they found more secrets. Finding themselves in the middle of injustice and crime, they needed to detect answers before they become one of the statistics. I liked the variety of chapter lengths in this book; it made it very readable. This story has a lot of action and is the second book in the Louisa Daniel series. The first title is SOCIAL GRACES. |
