WOW! This book grabbed me at the first page and took me on a wonderful, magickal, exciting read that I hated to see come to an end!

The story revolves around Kestrel Firehawk, the murders of "her guys", and her flight from the murderer as well as the police. The police suspect Kestrel is either the killer or involved in the murders of both her husband and her lover.

Kestrel flees the area with the help of the Goddess and a Coven of witches. A police officer, Robyn, who happens to belong to the Coven of the Jeweled Dragon plays a key role in Kestrel's escape.

I loved how the story flows through the years and the transformation of Finn, who was the officer in charge of the investigation into the murders and who was certain of Kestrel's involvement, into a practitioner of the Old Ways and a champion in defense of Kestrel and her daughters.

I appreciated Ms. Tedder's research into beliefs and practitioners of many faiths and her clear explanation of those beliefs. The rituals that were included in the book were beautiful, evoking a visual image in my mind as I read them.

I eagerly look forward to the next installment in this trilogy.
