Artifacts is the story of Faye Longchamp and her battle to keep her ancestral home, Joyeuse. Faye has had a hard life, and has sacrificed a great deal to survive. She has been digging up artifacts and selling them on the black market to pay her bills and survive. In digging for items to sell, she finds the remains of a young woman who died many years ago. Faye has to decide if she should report finding the woman's body and risk being caught in her illegal activities, or try to solve the mystery of how the dead woman came to be buried on Faye's land on her own. Artifacts was not only an entertaining read, but the facts and information on archaeology and history of Florida was fascinating. My husband is Native American, so I especially enjoyed the character of Joe Wolf Mantooth. Faye was such a strong character also and I really appreciated her determination to save her ancestral home. I loved the part of the book where Faye disguised the true beauty of her home so the woman from the property tax office wouldn't see Joyeuse' real value. It would be wonderful to re-visit Faye and Joe and see how their lives are going. |
