Raymond Derouin was born in Lynn, Massachusetts and has lived and worked in many places including Dallas, Washington D.C., New York City, and Philadelphia. He retired from the corporate world at the age of fifty-five in 1993 and moved permanently to his present home in Ouray, Colorado.

Over the years, writing was always an avocation. After having a number of short stories and articles published on a wide range of subjects, Derouin began writing for the theater. He has had a dozen different plays produced and more than a hundred performances of his work. He was very successful in play writing competitions. However, in recent years, Derouin has concentrated exclusively on writing novels, principally, the David Dean mystery series. Time Trial and San Juan Solution are the result.

Derouin has served on numerous boards of volunteer organizations such as Chambers of Commerce, Libraries, Municipal Agencies, Industry Trade Organizations, Credit Unions, Art Colonies, Music Associations, The Elks, his church, The United Way and a number of it’s member agencies. Since being "retired," to Ouray, he has served on the board or been an officer of their Chamber Resort Association, Library, Elks, Trail Group and Performing Arts Guild.

Derouin and his wife of thirty-six years started Ouray Toys, Inc., a specialty toy store in their small mountain town in 1996. The store is open year-round and has a very active web site. It is now managed by their daughter. Derouin skis, plays tennis, bikes, "jeeps" the high country, travels extensively and spends part of the winter in Apache Junction, Arizona where he finds time to work on genealogy. He has written a novel a year for the last four years.

Derouin has been affiliated with The Dramists Guild, The Mystery Writers of America and The Rocky Mountain Fiction Writers and has been a panelist at recent Left Coast Crime and Bouchercon conferences.
