The swish of a canoe paddle dipping silently through the deep waters of a quiet lake.
The far off sound of the twitter of birds and rustle of feathers.
Idyllic? Yes.
And deadly, since once again James P. Dandy and Dodee Swisher have met for an Elderhostel adventure.
This time they've chosen an "active" Elderhostel, canoeing on the lovely Santee Dam lakes in South Carolina. Their fellow travelers are the usual jumble of colorful characters: an ecologist determined to destroy all man-made dams, a retired Army general still trying to show he's "got the stuff", an FBI agent always on the lookout for crimes, a tree specialist from the Corps of Engineers, and an odd assortment of other couples from around the US.
And dead bodies, of course. How can it be otherwise with Jim and Dodee together?
