Confederate General W. W. Loring's troops were camped near Winchester, Virginia, in February 1862. A soldier is murdered. When the General learns that soldier was a woman, he is horrified at the heinous crime and determined to find the killer.
Life in the Confederate camp is not isolated. A photographer and a troupe of entertainers arrive the night of the murder, as well as a Kentucky doctor. An English delegation, headed by Sir Arthur Freemantle comes to inspect the troops. General Loring, assisted by his aide, must use all his wits to prevent a grave miscarriage of justice in the case of UNCIVIL DEATH.
Although the events is this book are fictional, the author has strived to maintain the authentic flavor of the time. She is working on the second book in the series, UNCIVIL DEATH IN NORFOLK, to be followed by UNCIVIL DEATH IN VICKSBURG.
