Linda Fairstein is America's foremost prosecutor of sexual assault crimes and domestic violence.

After graduating from Vassar College, she received her Juris Doctoris from the University of Virginia School of Law in 1972. In November of that year, she was appointed to the staff of New York County District Attorney's office. For the past 20 years, she has run the office's Sex Crimes Unit.

She is on the board of directors of several non-profit organizations, and a member of many groups including President Clinton's Violence Against Women Advisory Council, New York Women's Agenda Domestic Violence Committee (co-chair), and the American College of Trial Lawyers. She is also a member of the Mystery Writers of America and Sisters in Crime.

She currently lectures all over the country and has been profiled on a variety of television programs, including "20/20." She has also been the subject of stories in The New York Times Sunday Magazine (cover story), Esquire, Glamour, Time, and Cosmopolitan. In 1993, she was named "Woman of the Year" by both New Woman Magazine and Glamour.

Her non-fiction book, Sexual Violence: Our War Against Rape, was named by The New York Times as a Notable Book of 1994.

Linda Fairstein lives in New York City with her husband, an attorney.
