Hialeah Jackson is a big fat lie. She doesn't exist. Polly Whitney made her up and gave her what Polly considers a suitable Florida name, meaning one that suggests corruption and misdemeanors and, by great good planning, one that begins with the letter "J," so the books are easy to spot on bookstore shelves, unlike those books written as Polly Whitney -- all of which are absolutely condemned by the alphabet to being sold from the floor at the end of the mystery section. No one is quite sure of Hialeah's educational background, but we do know one thing: she's fluent in Spanish and American Sign Language, unlike Polly.
