Long romantic walks along the beach, snuggling together in front of a warm fire, falling asleep in each other's arms -- the perfect romantic weekend getaway. That is what Meg Langslow and her boyfriend, Michael, are looking forward to. They haven't been alone together since they met in the author's first book, Murder With Peacocks. Meg's aunt Phoebe long ago extended an open invitation to the summer cottage show owns on tiny Monhegan Island off the Maine coast, and Meg takes her up on it, figuring that the summer is over and they will have the entire house to themselves.

Meg and Michael begin their trip with high hopes, but their romantic plans start fading early when the ferry ride, with a hurricane on the horizon, is rough, wet, and cold. But that's nothing compared to the way their hopes are dashed when they arrive to find Aunt Phoebe's house already populated by Meg's parents, her brother, a talkative neighbor from home, and Aunt Phoebe.

Although they accept that there will be no romantic walks along the clifftops, neither Meg nor Michael is fully prepared to spend their "getaway weekend" tramping around the muddy island trying to clear Meg's father of murder when the body of Monhegan's most hated citizen is found.

In a book full of rain, mud, comic situations, and bird lovers, Andrews has created a strong sequel to her award winning Murder With Peacocks.
